Saturday evening, me and my group of gourmet eaters walk up the quiet Peel’s street, we were finding the authentic Indian food. Here we go, a little gem, the Indian village. The manager, probably the boss came out to greet us, we are allocated to a private dining room. The restaurant itself is well decorated with traditional ornaments and background music, the atmosphere was so great and we just can’t wait for the food.
We ordered the chicken samosas (deep-fried pastries) and bean salad with yogurt for starter. They are both great. The samosas are fully stuffed and the bean salad was refreshing, by the way, the portion was quite huge. I ordered Mango lassi for drink, it is just so MANGOLY, one of my all-time favorites drink. My friend went for Indian cha, he just love it, not my cup of tea though.
We tried several curries, Lamb saagwala (cooked with spinach), Goa’s fish curry and chestnut curry chicken, they all nice. The fish curry is very strong in flavor, is the fish fillet swimming in the curry ocean…. ? The naan breads and parathas are order-to-make, they are fresh and red hot, you just cannot find a substitute when eating with curry.
We also ordered the tandoori chicken drumstick with cheese, the chicken was tender and full of flavor of species. Portion was big too, but we didn’t leave out any food on plate. The manager (or boss?) recommended us two desserts, Ras Malai and indian icecream. Ras Malai is basically a homemade cheese soak in the condensed milk, it is very sweet and strong flavor, I quite like it and I am sure it is my first time to eat this kind of dissert. Indian ice-cream tasted like sorbet, like spice sorbet, the taste is more like Indian cha, not my cup of tea again…
Overall, we had a wonderful night with all the lovely Indian food, from starter to dessert, the service was excellent and the manager was happy to explain the dish and recommend. I will go back here, if I am hungry with the Indian food again.
