AMMO is located a bit up the hill. Although its location is not the most convenient, it makes you feel relaxed and away from the hustle and bustle of Central.
The restaurant itself is not very big but the high ceiling makes it spacious and airy.
We were seated at the sofas by the window. Although there wasn't much of a view apart from the trees on the slope next to the restaurant, it's cozy and made me feel like I could chill there for the whole evening.
The server was attentive and friendly. He showed me the menu and made a brief introduction of it.
He also asked if we would like to start with a drink. I told him I wanted something refreshing and non-alcoholic and he immediately recommended this orange-based mocktail which I found refreshing but a little bit on the watery front. It's still an ideal drink to get your appetite ready for the sumptuous meal ahead.
The bread was served warm and crusty which I liked very much.
We ordered 2 tapas and 2 starters to start with. The first tapas was beef cheek. It was tender and juicy - absolutely yummy!
The second tapas was deep fried oyster which was fresh and crispy on the outside.
We ordered 2 starters to share. The first one was scampi. It's decent portion and absolutely fresh. I always love scampi. Although there's not as much flesh as lobster, its taste is more intense.
The second starter was black cod with miso paste. It's nicely done and the sweet flavor of the miso paste went very well with the black cod. The skin was crispy while the meat was juicy, tender and fatty.
Here it came the main course. We ordered the beef steak and lobster spaghetti to share.
The lobster spaghetti was rich in flavor and it came with a good amount of lobster. The spaghetti was just al dente. The chef was also thoughtful enough to split it into 2 portions for us to share.
The beef steak was cooked to the temperature we liked. It's still pink inside yet not too red. However, the meat flavor was not as strong as we would like. Presentation was appetizing.
Finally, it came the desserts. We had apple tart and tiramisu. The apple tart was served nice and warm. It went very well with the ice-cream. The tart base was crusty and the apple slices were still crunchy.
The tiramisu was very special. I would actually call it "tiramisu decomposed". As you can see in the photo, it's not like the traditional tiramisu. It's decomposed into several "components". The bread on top was moist as it's soaked with coffee. However, I couldn't detect any trace of cognac or brandy which is common used for making the traditional tiramisu. Then there was this creamy roll in the middle which I believe was made of mascarpone cheese. The chocolate flakes sprinkled on top and around just made it perfect. Although it's decomposed, when you eat them together it's a perfect combination and it's not too sweet either which was to my liking. It's both creative and delicious. It also marked the perfect end of our sumptuous meal.
Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience. It's a secluded and nice environment where you can enjoy good food with your better half or a group of friends. Food was impressive and service was attentive.
