My friend and I ordered from the main menu instead of the lunch menu. Per staff’s recommendation, we ordered seafood paella. The waiter said the size is good for 2 to 3 ppl sharing. In addition, we ordered beef tartare with organic egg, asparagus with black olive and sautéed mushrooms. It was such a hot day so we ordered cocktail…basil julep and balsamic strawberry fragola.
Beef Tartare – it’s chopped beef…no good…like marinated raw beef with scallion, ginger and soy sauce (so Chinese cooking taste)
Seafood Paella – the portion is more like for one person; not enough for two. The rice is a little too watery, and the seafood is fishy.
Asparagus with Black Olive – ok
Sauteed Mushrooms – ok
Basil Julep – it’s gin with basil..refreshing.
Balsamic Strawberry Fragola – Vodka, Balsamic Vinegar and Strawberry…a bit too sweet for me but ok
Overall, the ambience and décor is comfortable. The food is mediocre. The cocktails are ok but too expensive ($110 per glass). We spent $850 for 2 persons and didn’t feel it was worth it.

I love the set up of Isono's lunch menu, which allows you to choose a different combination of starters, mains and sides/desserts depending on the number of people in your party. My friend and I opted for the one person lunch (1 main, 1 side/dessert and 1 coffee/tea) so that I could also order some dishes from the a la carte menu. Served with a smooth and light aioli, the croquettes are a perfect combination of cod and smooth potato batter (I think that's what it is?), giving it an almost creamy texture.

The main course recommended to us from the lunch menu was the roasted lemon spring chicken. Personally, I would not have chosen the spring chicken from the menu if I had not been recommended it (because it can be done very badly) but it was an unexpected winner! The chicken tasted pleasantly charred but was roasted only lightly, so that the skin is soft and juicy rather than crisp. The meat was also very tender and not at all dry. I wasn't too sure if the chicken was infused with lemon or if it was just the lemon juice i squeezed on top, but the lemon flavour was refreshing.

The main I ordered from the main menu was the meat paella, which I loved from my previous visit. The rice in the paella is already full of flavour, but where the shortrib or the juicy chicken thigh pieces are placed on the pan, the rice absorbs all the juices from the meats during cooking and packs a whole lot more flavour! This is definitely the star of the meal to me!

Finally, returning to the lunch menu, I opted for the hazelnut creme brulee. This is also done very well, with the smooth creme made extra rich and decadent from the hazelnut, balancing out the flavours of the crispy burnt sugar. The sprinkling of nuts on top also adds a welcomed extra layer of crunch and texture to the dessert.

I would definitely recommend Isono for a relaxing lunch with friends thanks to their thoughtful lunch combinations (for example, lunch for 2 keeps it at 1 main and 1 side/dessert but throws in the choice of 2 starters), if not for a full evening experience! The dishes on offer are all well thought out and very well executed, not to mention the incredible ambiance of the stunning space.

Everything was good - I really liked that they'd put some thought into their cocktail list, the flavour combinations were fresh and delicious (I had one called the fix, which had rosemary, gin and elderflower).

Foodwise - we had iberico ham platter to start (yummy), mussels (v good), seafood paella (good), duck rilettes with thin wafers (delicious and moreish), beef tartare (delicious), triple cooked chips (fab! order two baskets as they quickly disappear), roast potatos (parched, the only thing I would not recommend).

The dessert was incredible! They make an amazing tart tartin - all caramel and apple with this lovely fat, perfectly browned pastry.

The decor is lovely, very spacious with a good view, feels like you're in another city.

If you like meat then this is the restaurant for you! I went with a group of meat loving friends and we tried the pata negra platter - our favourite was Iberico Ham (next time i might just get that), the meat paella which was recommended to me by another friend - it was a really delicous take on the traditional seafood paella. My girlfriend ordered the roasted lemon spring chicken, I don't usually love big chunks of chicken like that but this one was so smokey and so moist I ended up eating most

I also recommend the triple cooked chips, hard to get good chips in HK and these are top 5 IMHO.

We were so busy eating we didn't take pictures until dessert (which my girlfriend ordered because I ate all her chicken) and then all the phones came out because this hazelnut creme brulee blew us away. Really even if you are not a dessert person leave room for this.

I found the service really helpful and nice, but if I had to pick on something I would say I think the lights are too bright in the dining area. Other than that we loved the interiors and the music (which too many restaurants overlook).

Already been to Isono 3 times, once for lunch and twice for dinner.  I just can't get over the ambiance of this place, vibrant atmosphere with great service and great food (not to mention the selection of cocktails and wine to go with my food- I personally love the elderflower cocktail called "the fix" some say its a bit too sweet but I love it). The ham selection was awesome, brought me back to my ham tasting memories in Spain. I could eat a million cod croquettes, it's definitely my favourite

The ham selection was awesome, brought me back to my ham tasting memories in Spain. I could eat a million cod croquettes, it's definitely my favourite warm appetizer from Isono. The seafood paella has so much flavour infused into every grain of rice, perfectly al dente, it was like a beach party in my mouth (without the sand of course har har). Stuffed to the brim each time, but I cannot and will not resist their dessert. Have to confess, I tried almost all of their desserts but my personal favourites are the apple tart, hazelnut creme brulee and the tiramisu.

Overall a great experience, yes it maybe a little pricey but hey, you pay for what you get. My friends and I love this place, been 3 times and will definitley go again soon. Great start for this new restaraunt and it can only get even better through time!

This place is way overpriced for the value of the food.  The HK$98 gazpacho was more creamy and oily than tomato.  They also serve it in plain drinking glass with no spoon.  I love gazpacho, and yet we didn't even finish it.   What was insane was the HK$220 for a tuna tartar appetizer.  I mean, seriously?  HK$220 for a small amount of diced tuna!  Nothing special about it but the price.  For mains, we ordered the Mezze Maniche pasta, which was equally underwhelming.  The pasta was a small portio

Lastly, we ordered two glasses of wine, and I finished mine first.  When I ordered another, they brought the wine in a new bottle that was the same as the first they poured from, but the wine was off - it tasted totally different than the first glasses we had ordered.  We still had some left in one of the first glasses we ordered, and tried them side by side - totally different.  No idea why.

So, for two starters, two pastas and three glasses of wine?:  HK$1115.00!!  Rip off.  Will not be back.  I would advise you to stay away.

My friends and I tried Isono for the first time yesterday on Day 3 after opening. Given it was opening weekend we were prepared to make exceptions for the experience. Nonetheless, it was devastatingly disappointing. Where to begin?
- staff was generally friendly but very disorganized and haphazard. In the first 30 min, we had 6 separate wait staff approach us to take orders/serve and all claimed to be our waiter yet none took responsibility for our dinner. It was unclear who we should follow up with when our food took a long time in coming
- our first of two appetizers we ordered arrived quite promptly after 10-15 min. the other one arrived 30 min later by the way after following up with at least 4 different waiters. the odd thing about the plate of jambon cuts we ordered was that it didn't come with any bread. and when i asked for bread i was told it would have to be an extra charge. i can't remember the last time i dined in a Western fine dining restaurant that doesn't provide bread. if you are on an Atkins diet, then this place is for you!
- my friend ordered a beer and it did come in a cold bottle but with a warm glass. It's a minor thing but surprising for such a nice restaurant
- paella arrived cold. When we complained, Stephan the manager got very defensive and told us the chef intends for it not to be served hot. He did replace it but it was the defensiveness that really turned us off. A simple apology would have sufficed and perhaps some freebies to soothe the irritation
- soup bowls for the stew arrived 10 min after the stew. although the stews look very appetizing on the menu, i would advise against ordering it. the cod stew arrived and looked very unappetizing in its small bowl. in addition, the cod was very overcooked and chewy... A nostalgic throwback to cafeteria dining

I did enjoy the roast pork shoulder which was very tasty. It does come quite pink in the center though which might bother those who like their pork fully cooked. It didn't bother me and was one of the highlights in an otherwise bleak meal.

To cap it all off, the manager (Stephan) came by to offer a free (1) glass of wine for my friend who had done the complaining about the shoddy service we had received. Even though there were 3 others of us who were there. It was almost absurd, would have been better not to offer anything at all! He really did make it seem like he was doing us a grand favor by giving us this one free glass of wine after we complained about the service - all we really wanted was for our food to be delivered on time and warm.

We also got some free dessert in the end - even though it was free I would still say it was not good value for money. I swear the chocolate cake is the exact same recipe from my high school cafeteria dining, it was just as oversweet and rubbery.

I thought the food was average and not bad especially for Soho. But it's more about how the manager handled (or mishandled) the situation. Hopefully it does improve over time because the space is very nice - worth a drink to check it out!
