I usually order the rice-paper rolls, the laab, the papaya/grapefruit salad (they are rather interchangeable and I can never remember which I prefer), pork neck (which comes sprinkled with coriander seeds which is wonderful touch) the flat rice noodles, the various curries (although I’m ambivalent about curries in general), and the beef salad.
For most dishes, you can choose which meat you’d prefer – prawn, pork or beef. Bring your own booze or enjoy their sodas.
Finally, if you manage to save room, of course go for the mango sticky rice with the purple and white rice in equal parts. Be sure to specifically ask for the purple rice. At one point they stopped stocking it because people were spooked by the description for some reason!
One of the waitresses is a sister of the chef and she’s just lovely. Like my boyfriend says – she’s the hardest working waitress in Thai-business!

Other Info. : They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait. On this occasion, we went early enough (by around 7 on a Monday) so we didn't have to wait.

The cheese spring roll was interesting. Deep friend crispy and very hot and soft inside. Not sure if it's a typical thai food tho. Later can came the pad thai, which was complex. It got a bit too much completing flavours and we were a bit overwhelmed. Didn't like it too much.

The green veggie curry and red curry with salmon were great. The red curry with salmon was obviously catering for the expat clientele in the hood. Not entirely what I expected but it tasted quite nice. Distinct tastes of herbs and spices were well balanced and salmon was cooked well. The green curry was yummy and we liked the eye plant a lot. However, we think that they were not spicy enough.

As we finished our food, the place was also quickly getting filled with almost 90 percent expats. I am not surprised after 1 year in biz the place has adjusted its menu and recipes slightly to entertain its major customer base. However I just miss the authentic taste of Thailand it once offered.

All in all, I'd still recommend this place as the dishes are quite nice for their prices. But if you are looking for super authentic Thai food, you might have to speak to their friendly staff and explain and describe what you want exactly, or go somewhere else.

We have tried almost the entire menu and some of our favourites are the Tom Zaap (a clear Tom Yum soup) The Gai Pad Khing (Ginger chicken), Laab moo (spiced pork salad), and my friend loves the Pad see ew (fat noodles). I am also partial to the Yam neua yang (the beef salad).
If you love spicy, make sure you ask for your food "thai hot" and it will come out as authentic as you get. But for those who have a less spicy palate they also cater for you...just ask.

Thai on high don't take bookings so make sure you get there early as they are often busy. However if you didn't get a seat this time they also do takeaways.

The service is also very good and they entire team is thai; so an authentic experience.

My favourite thai in HK!

I have some friends who are fans of Thai on High and we dined with them there recently. It was a Saturday around 6:30, and the place was completely empty, though more customers came in as we were eating. One plus about ToH is that it is BYOB and-- what's more-- there are excellent places to acquire beer in the surrounding area: the SOHO Wine & Spirits, and a new liquor store beneath Island Crest. I forget the new store's name, but they had Dogfish Head (!!!), but unfortunately not the 60 or 90 m

Rice Paper Rolls

The rice paper rolls looked a little ragged. They weren't closed on the ends; they were irregularly shaped. I thought they perhaps had too much cabbage, too little herbs, and needed some sriracha. Still, they were OK, it's hard to make bad rice paper rolls. C

The papaya salad was not bland or soggy, so it beats out the lower end stuff you find around HK. It wasn't spicy, however, and it lacked that special something that makes me want to eat pounds of papaya. B

I'm the last person who should be asked to review satay. I think it's the worst grilled meat in the world. Give me fajitas or kebabs or bulgogi, I just have never had satay that made me say anything other than "meh." So there you have it, meh: C

One of my friends is really into this chicken and cashew stir fry. I don't see what's particularly Thai about it, but I will say that it was the best thing we had. The veggies were nicely stir fried, crisp but charred; the chicken was tender and well-flavored. Mostly it was soy sauce, but sometimes simple works. Good: B+

We got the vegetarian Massaman curry. It had a nice array of vegetables including some I wouldn't have expected like broccoli, long beans, and is that bitter melon (?). Still, I liked it-- I actually think broccoli in a curry is a brilliant idea, due to its propensity to sop up sauce. The curry didn't have that cardamom-y warmness I associate with Massaman curry, but it was still reasonably good. B
Stir Fried Flat Rice Noodles w/ Shrimp

This is the dish that I really wanted to order, but I was rather disappointed. In general I'm a fan of thick, broad, flat rice noodles. With a little bit of sauce in them, and pan fried to get the slightest hint of smokiness in them, they can be one of the most carbohydrate-y satisfying things I know of. These ones were chewy in a bad way. Tough to bite through, I think undercooked. I wouldn't order it again, and that's saying a lot because dishes like this are my Thai restaurant staple. Poor: D

ToH has promise, in my mind. My friends' favorite dishes (the chicken and cashews, and the curry) were good. The ingredients were all top notch, there were just a few missteps, like poorly rolled rice paper rolls and poorly cooked rice noodles. It's a relatively new restaurant and I expect it will improve. I'd certainly rather go here than the Thai restaurant in my building (i.e. in the Queen St. cooked food center). But it won't become a go-to for me. OK: C+.
